Artist Statement

Even at an early age, I remember always being able to visualize anything I wanted. So for me doodling seemed natural. It was a way for me to bring these vivid visualizations into the physical world. Later I remember in my secondary schools art class, I learned a lot of advanced techniques with a great group of people while also learning about the nature of art itself. That experience inspired and encouraged me to continue creating artworks.
While creating art I am documenting ideas while also exploring conscious and subconscious reactions to visual processing. I love the repetition of working on a series, because the later works become heavily influenced by my subconscious. The learned reactions to similar situations begin to control my decision-making. My artwork is a visual homage to my life. I’ve worked at a record shop for over ten years, so music is a big part of that. I’ve seen so many concert posters and album’s artwork that it became a subconscious influence. It wasn’t until one of my professors congratulated me on breaking away from “head shop” art that I realized the impact of its influence and began to manipulate that.
